41347 2002-04-02 00:16:00 what do you think of ogg vorbis?

if you don't know its a open source mp3 like format/codec.
i just started to play with it. just wondering what anyone esle thought of it? anyone treid to convert dvd with it?

www.ogg.org

there is a winamp plugin to play it and cdex can rip a cd to it. so far the quality to size seems very good.

41349 2002-04-02 02:26:00 In terms of quality, therre is unnoticable difference between same bitrate mp3's and ogg. The advantage is, is that as you correctly state, is that it is open source. The problem is, is that they are not as common as mp3's.

For best compromise between size and quality use mp3PRO. For loss-less compression, but slightly larger file sizes use monkeys audio - no loss of quality from CD, but only about 1/4 - 1/8 the original size compared with mp3's 1/10.
