41898 2002-04-04 22:33:00 Had a new HDD installed recently, and had to re-install my scanner driver and stuff. I duly installed EZ-SCSI Lite on my W98 machine, and downloaded the driver for the Adaptec AVA-1502 controller (or so I thought!) When I go into Control Panle/System/Device Manager for the SCSI card, it tells me the device is 'either not working, not present, or does not have all the drivers present (code 10). Consequently, I can't use the scanner... As the scanner (Microtek E3) has been on the system for a number of years, I don't have any warranty and seem to have lost any disks that came with it, apart from EZ-SCSI Lite. Short of buying a new scanner, what else can a poor newbie do? Guest (0)
41899 2002-04-04 23:23:00 Being a newbie myself I'm not sure if my problem is in any way related to yours, but here's what I'm experiencing! Almost every time I go to use my scanner, it says it can't detect the device and to make sure it is installed and plugged in correctly. Considering I haven't changed anything since using it last, you can imagine my frustration. I contacted that infamous company that often gets slagged off on this site and was told to uninstall the scanner and reboot. This works, but it always seems to do it when I'm in a hurry and don't want the bother of going in, uninstalling it, rebooting and reinstalling it. If anyone has got a more permanent answer (apart from throwing it out the window), I'd be keen to hear it. Guest (0)

41902 2002-04-05 05:02:00 Microtek are still in business. I got a Scanmaker III at auction for $20, downloaded the (I think) three floppy's worth of driver and away it went. Of course that was for DOS and Win95 ...

It goes beaut on Linux with the SANE scanner software.

Try www.microtek.com --- it's a while ago, but I think it was the home site. Otherwise, try a google search for 'Microtek E3 driver'.

However, you ought to be able to 'see' the SCSI card. That's one of the models *without* the BIOS extension ROM, isn't it? Check that the jumpers 'look' sensible. Is it using an IRQ that Windows wants to use for something else?

41903 2002-04-05 05:36:00 Thanks, Graham - I've got the drivers (6 disks) from Microtek's site, and checked the IRQ's are available, so the SCSI controller is now visible, but the scanner still can't be found by SCSI check... I'm starting to think the E3 has gone belly-up, as the 'ready' light isn't lighting up. Guest (0)
41904 2002-04-06 06:41:00 Just remembered if you are using a parallel port it had to be fully upgraded plus the max number of devices was 2, ie printer plus scanner. Add a ZIP drive and it all goes to custard. Guest (0)
