41896 2002-04-04 21:52:00 I have a HP Pavilion running Windows 98. There are two large files, back up and swap,is it possible to delete them to free up space or are they necessary.Thanks. Guest (0)
41897 2002-04-04 23:00:00 I don't know about backup, but your swap file is the file used by windows to store working info when it runs out of RAM. RAM is your physical memory. Swap is your virtual memory. Windows needs this file to work, so even if you try, you won't be able to delete it. If you need space, try cleaning out your temp folders, or buy a new HD as they are pretty cheap these days. You can limit the size of your swap file by changing the settings under the performance tab when you right click on my computer, and select properties. However, unless you know what you are doing, I highly recommend you leave this alone.
