42180 2002-04-06 03:42:00 Hi there.

I am running windows 95, and anyone familiar to how to get Windows netmeeting going...

Directory Settings, only have an option of uls.microsoft.com and microsoft Internet directory

Is the directory settings have something to do to start netmeeting?

42181 2002-04-06 05:41:00 I have used Netmeeting from 98 onwards. You don't need to connect to any server directory. Just host netmeeting and let people connect to you by telling them the IP address to connect to.

If they are hosting you just get their IP address and type that in and use the phone to dial it.

42182 2002-04-06 05:48:00 Getting NetMeeting up and running with audio and video can be a bit of a pain. Microsoft used to provide what were known as ILS servers that you could contact people through. That service has now gone as they want you to use MSN and sign up for the passport rubbish nonsense.

If you know the IP address of the person you wish to contact, then that is the best way of calling.

Be aware that many of the people out there are just sex fiends:).

You can still use 3rd party ILS servers though. Have a look at the site below for useful information and links to other sites.

I wouldnt recommend trying to use a USB camera with Win95, it may not work properly, especially if your BIOS is a bit elderly.

42183 2002-04-06 07:12:00 Hi

As mentioned by Terry, NetMeeting is integrated with msn messenger. If your friends are on msn messenger, you click the phone book icon on the right hand side of NetMeeting and the Microsoft Internet Directory will show anyone online, who is signed in on messenger.

You can also invite someone to start NetMeeting in messenger.

People may moan about messenger and so on, but I use it to keep in touch with friends, starting on line games, voice chat, sending files and other things. It works fine for me :-)

42184 2002-04-06 21:45:00 Hello Jane,
Terrys right, the best way to use netmeeting is though msn messenger.

There are heaps of other servers that can be used to meet other people and if you do a search for netmeeting you'll find web sites full of them.

However be warned, that most of them involve contacts of a sexual nature.

cheers
