42119 2002-04-05 23:13:00 Possibly after getting the Magstra virus or possibly from just goofing around too much, I don't seem to have the real My Documents folder on the desktop.
I've had to make standard folder and put it into the personal file in windows and put a shortcut on the desktop..which explorer unfortunatly doesn't pick up when I'm saving stuff.
Any suggestions to get the real thing back greatly appreciated.

I hope this doesn't count as double posting..

42121 2002-04-06 00:39:00 In windows explorer, is there still a 'my documents folder' on your C drive? If so, open and make a shortcut to put on your desk top. If it is not there, recreate it. Post back if you need more help. Bye Guest (0)
42122 2002-04-06 05:30:00 If all else fails, you could try reloading W98 over the top. It might take an hour or so, but in the end it may be a quicker fix.

42125 2002-04-06 12:42:00 Perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree or something, but I thought that the 'my Documents' folder was a *special* folder like the Bin and My Computer?
My problem is this really..In explorer I can't see 'my documents' on the tree in 'desktop' (the first folder), all i see is the 'bin' and 'my comp'. I guess this is because, with it now being a shortcut to a normal folder, it's not shown. It's there in the right pane, if I click on 'Desktop' and has a shortcut arrow on it.
It is on the desktop as a shortcut.
Before I could get to it in 3 different places;- the desktop, in C/, and in the personal file.
The MS stuff looked promising, coming from the Bat-cave itself, but...
I haven't got, 'My Documents Folder on the Desktop' under 'new' on the desktop for method 1.
Method 2 I haven't got 'Add Item to the Desktop' as an option there, just create shortcut (which I've done)..and
Method 3, means that the 2 folders arn't linked, so when I add a file to one, it doesn't go to the other! probably due to my 'My documents' not being the real one.
I should look at someone elses w98 desktop to make sure it's all not some horrible dream...

42126 2002-04-07 09:02:00 Hmmmm..... We seem to be running out of ideas,Ive even tried to simulate this problem by trying to delete the 'My Documents' folder on my kids pc. I couldn't even delete it using a boot disk :-(
Is the MYDOCS.DLL file still in your system ? or has it been deleted too?
If it's still there you can try the following,Go to Start > Run > 'rundll32 mydocs.dll,RestoreMyDocsFolder' (no quotes).

42127 2002-04-08 00:41:00 I only have ONE reference to Mydocuments in the registry, Susan, which seems to be related to this meaningful number:- {450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103 (at least the last bit is an 0800 number!!)

I have still got the MYDOCS.DLL and inside it does have lots of references to a HKCR\clsid, which doesn't seem to be there, nor mean anything to me.
So I tried your Start > Run > 'rundll32mydocs.dll,RestoreMyDocsFolder' steve, but nothing happens.
So I guess by the sounds of it, I'm cooked! and using the back-up disc is on %~(

thanks for the help anyway guys, It was worth a shot...
