42033 2002-04-05 04:43:00 I know my aunties computer would benefit from a Defrag, but apparently the last time they done it they 'lost some programs and had to take it into the shop'. I know that they arent very computer minded people, and now they dont want me to, but Im wondering if there ARE any problems related to Defrag. Guest (0)
42034 2002-04-05 04:59:00 I am sure someone will contradict me but I am unaware of any ill side affects from defragging computers and I have done it often enough on enough computers.
To lose programs they must have done something but a doubt a defrag.
You don't mention which OS, not winME? they could 'lose' programs so to speak if they used the restore function and went back to a date before the programs were installed

42035 2002-04-05 05:05:00 I'd tend to agree with Gordon, but I think perhaps there is the setting in Defrag of 'automatically check for errors' which may have been turned on, and some file may have been 'fixed' somehow using this feature, which could explain why some things were lost. A regular defrag without this feature turned on won't lose any files or programs. Guest (0)
