| 42013 | 2002-04-05 08:11:00 | I have been trying in vain to setup my computer to download my emails using Outlook Express. (Netscape Messenger produces similar errors!) I have set this up in past but had to reformat and now I can't get it to work. I am using an old version of Win95, on a pretty modern computer (but that shouldn't be a problem because it worked before on this PC). I have MS Outlook Express 5, and I DO NOT have Winsock 2 installed. I am using a normal dial-up modem without a firewall, though the ISP install thing initally setup one. I have a few different email addresses I want to download from, hotmail works fine, but I really need my yahoo mail to work too. The settings I am using for yahoo mail: 'My incoming server is POP3' incoming server: pop.mail.yahoo.com - No SSL (for incoming mail) - Port 110 outgoing server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com - requires Authentification: - Logon using [my username] - No SSL - Port 25 No security certificates setup etc. Server timeout = 1 min. ------------- What happens: ------------- Task1: Send 1 message(s) using 'Yahoo Mail'. - Finding host... - Fails. - Gives second error below Task2: Check for new messages on 'Yahoo Mail'. - Finding host... - Either succeeds, asks for my password, then fails, - or fails here. - Gives first error below ------- Errors: ------- Error when receiving: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Yahoo Mail', Server: 'pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Error when sending: The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Yahoo Mail', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E Any help will be much obliged. As mentioned earlier I have also tried using Netscape Messenger, and I have also tried to do the same thing with an i4free account. All give the same sort of errors. Thankyou much, in advance. Malcolm. |

| 42014 | 2002-04-05 09:55:00 | I've always had intermittent problems with yahoo mail - one of the ways i fixed it was to point the pop server to: pop.mail.yahoo.com.au (which seemed to work more consistently than the dot com one) and point the smtp server as my default (smtp.paradise.net.nz in my case). However, from what i understand, yahoo is switching to a pay service if you want to access your mail this way so this help may be not very useful in the long run. |

Account: 'Yahoo Mail', Server: 'smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E ******** My error message is: Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'services.msn.com Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Authorization Required', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC32 ******** I just want to say that I have been trying to sort this out with Microsoft over about the past 3 weeks, but despite about 6 suggestions from them on what to try, it still does not work. But it seems to me our problems may have a similar cause, ... other software intruding? ... maybe? |

| 42016 | 2002-04-06 06:28:00 | Well, I get exactly the same error messages from i4free as I do from Yahoo, so it can't be yahoo specefic. I am thinking that it is either that I don't have exactly the right internet connection setup, OR my antivirus program is interfering (PC-Cillin 2000). If I totally disable PC-Cillin I don't think it helps, though I have yet to be as drastic as uninstalling it. Rugila kk, it says something about Authorization Required, have you made sure that that is setup properly in your account properties, or maybe not typing in the right password or username? Just a thought. |

This is their add..... Get your mail when you want, how you want You can download your Yahoo! Mail messages from any POP3 account using an email application like Outlook. Or you can forward your Yahoo! Mail to another email account automatically. Get mail and mail alerts sent right to your mobile phone Get personalized spam filtering with SpamGuard Plus, 2GB storage, 20MB message size, no graphical ads, POP access and forwarding, and more great features for just $19.99/year - that's less than $2/month. Brgds, |
