1294864 2012-08-15 01:55:00 Im running windows 8 rtm and does anybody know where is or how do i find windows media center i cant find it anywhere im running the pro edition on windows 8 build 9200 i thought it was meant to be built in to it. Hitech (9024)
1294865 2012-08-15 02:04:00 It doesnt come with it, you need a separate key / and have to pay for it then activate it. So, it'll install Speedy Gonzales (78)
1294866 2012-08-15 02:37:00 Its obviously a leaked version. Officially its not available till the end of this week ( friday more than likely) to people with MSDN & Technet Subscriptions.
Only OEM manufactures like Dell, HP etc and certain companies have it currently LEGALLY
General public is October 26.

As for the Media Center and Key, you have to download that from MS and they give you a trial /Time limited key, but no idea if it works on the RTM, you have to buy it when available.

1294869 2012-08-15 08:31:00 This may help at MDL forums.mydigitallife.info What an arse about way of doing it. If someone reads the comments, several say it doesn't work. And even then one comment "This doesn't activate it, merely adds it to the install" ( so you still need a legit Product key) Why even bother.

If you have the pro version, it should install exactly the same was as the Release Preview.

From MS's site Windows 8

Windows Media Center is not preinstalled in Windows 8 Release Preview. windows.microsoft.com ( Mods this is not a pirated key its legit from MS in that link under Where is Windows Media Center)

If you want to use Windows Media Center, you need to add it by following these steps:

1.
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, and then click Search.)

2.
Enter add features in the search box, and then tap or click Add features to Windows 8.

3.
Tap or click I already have a product key.

4.
Enter this product key: MBFBV-W3DP2-2MVKN-PJCQD-KKTF7 and then click Next.

5.
Select the checkbox to accept the license terms and then click Add features.

Your PC will restart and Windows Media Center will now be on your PC and the tile will be pinned to the Start screen.

The above method works perfectly - I have it on the Release Preview and used it several times.

1294871 2012-08-15 09:27:00 It is a PITA that win 8 doesn't come with WMC. But note that WMC will be part of the cheap ($US40) win 7/vista upgrade offer. So there are two reasons to grab the upgrade.

I would hazard that MS are trying to make sure win 7 gets upgraded as I am sure that most people are happy with win 7 so a big incentive is needed.

I guess I will take the upgrade but I am not too sold on the UI experience on a normal monitor. Call me ambivalent!

Think I might wait for Windows 10 or go Linux
