1271191 2012-04-22 06:35:00 I'm planning to buy a phone and would like to get an iPhone but i heard there'll be a new iPhone this year. Should i just wait for the new iPhone or what? Really need your suggestions since i don't have a phone and a sim atm. silentcon (16758)
1271192 2012-04-22 06:40:00 I would just get the galaxy nexus after having very bad experiences with Ithings and iTunes. sahilcc7 (15483)
1271193 2012-04-22 06:50:00 Personally wouldnt spend a great amount of money in any platform at the moment. New iPhone later in the year. Bound to be the new galaxylll or galaxylls as some reports say. And also win phone8. plod (107)
1271194 2012-04-22 07:05:00 Imo unless you're importing an iphone from the US I wouldn't buy them new in NZ. $1000 is stupid. You can get like a 3gs for $350-400ish on tm. Yeah the iphone is great but its not $1000 great. I dont think any phone is. I looked at buying one recently, if I did I was going to buy the 3gs, features on the 4 and 4s weren't enough to warrant the extra cost. icow (15313)
1271195 2012-04-22 07:24:00 If you are also looking for a nice plan to go with an iPhone, I'd go for the Telecom 80$ plan, which gets you an iphone for 200$.
It's a 24 month contract plan, but it's pretty good bang for buck at the moment.

Get an iphone on this plan, sell it a month before the new iphone comes out on TM for 700... Add 200$ and buy the new iphone then.

Someone did some calculations, that if you get on this plan and break it straight away, you'll save 50$ on getting an iphone from the store (or something of that nature, google it).
And another one, that you essentially get 200mins, 200 text and 1gb for 40$. Which isn't too bad at all.

1271196 2012-04-22 07:50:00 Note this place is very Android bias so you will not get a straight answer about iPhone. The 4s is around half way through it's life cycle, so really depends if you can wait another 6 months for a phone or not. I would not get a 3G-S. At least get a 4.

I expect the next generation iPhone to be a fairly decent overhall since the 4 to 4s was not, but time will tell.

1271198 2012-04-22 20:52:00 To be honest i'd never buy a phone new in NZ, too expensive. I got my SII 2nd hand for $500 NZD from ebay. When I upgrade I'll go for a 2nd hand one again.

I'd wait for the "latest" iPhone, if the reviews are terrible you can get the 4S cheaper and if they are great you can get the new one. Remember iDevices can't expand their memory so make sure you get one that will fit all your songs apps and games.

tbh I don't favour the iPhone 4 series, they break extremely easy and feel clunky compared to the lumia and Galaxy SII. If you decide not to go for an iPhone wait for the next lumia phone to come out as it will most likely have WP8 (Windows Phone 8) on it. Same applies to the iPhone for the SIII, see what people say, if great! good, buy, if not get an SII cheaper.

1271199 2012-04-22 21:25:00 I look after 20 odd iphones here at work, they have had them since iPhone 4 came out. Not one person has physically broken theirs. I personally find the S2 feels cheap and nasty in the hand, much prefer the weight of the iphone or HTC phones around the same price bracket. Alex B (15479)
1271200 2012-04-22 21:33:00 Really? We had around 15 at my previous place, and just on 1/3 of them needed replacing within the space of the 18 months I was there. Add that to the fact they were all owned by 'sales guys' in suits who never did anything rough and yeah .. I'm just throwing that out there. The SGS2 feels cheaper because of the plastic, you can bend the battery cover right in half and it'll snap back into the flat shape it was supposed to be in. Throw in Gorilla Glass and it doesn't matter how "cheap" you think it feels, it'll stand up to a ton more than the iPhone.

Anyways, there's always a better phone "just around the corner". Just get something you'll be happy with and try not to get too green with envy when something (inevitably) better comes along. Your phone will still continue to function even after the SGS3 / iPhone5 whatever comes out...

I'd suggest the Galaxy Nexus or SGS2. The GN is incredibly cheap at the moment in some places around the country! :D
