They would have pictures of over 97% of the cyclists using the intersection ;) Unfortunately cyclists don't have traceable registration any more often than they have licences.

1271023 2012-04-22 08:08:00 And some here who know what happened to four of my mates a few years ago on Tamaki Drive would be unsurprised by the fact that I support prefect's view on this 110% .

When I got my licence (back in the Middle Ages :)), you had to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign . These days Stop signs are treated like Give Way signs with 98% of motorists just rolling through them, or ignoring them completely .

Stop signs are usually placed at intersections that are dangerous, but not busy enough to warrant traffic lights: these would be a far better place to put 'red light cameras' . Of course, they would have to be suitably modified to take fast-frame video and be triggered by the motion of a vehicle approaching and moving through a Stop sign controlled intersection .

If the cops really wanted to make some money, this would be a goldmine!

Most stop signs that I see in Auckland could be replaced by Giveway signs . The only time you need a Stop sign is where there ins bad visibility or a speed change on the roads . Several I know are just used as revenue gathering spots where Giveways are adequate . .

Haven't had a speeding ticket for ten years now, and that's not good luck but good management plod (107)

According to most posters here thats the biggest type of ticket they fear! Meanwhile easier picking fines like illegal parking with unwarrented and rego vehicles goes by unnoticed, so really is it revenue gathering or some deluded sense of safety that these people who whine about getting pinged for speeding miss?

I find it interesting to note how obseesed the average kiwi driver is to keep within a few kmh of the open road speedlimit and still manage to avoid slowing down for the lower limits and still complain. It is interesting driving a vehicle with MPH reading cruising along at 60mph(which is the limit in the UK) and how frustrated some kiwi motorists get because you are doing 4kph under the speedlimit.

Yet I also wonder how many of those speed fearing motorists do carry their piece of plastic that allows them the privalage (not a right) to drive, realise that not carrying that licence invites an extra $50 to that $30 minor whinge ticket for going a few Ks over the limit?

1271028 2012-04-22 11:38:00 I guess you have never had a near miss at one these junctions or had t extricate someone from a vehicle after someone ignores that sign? All you see is the dollar effect on you but you fail to see the warning of potential injury it is reminding you of.
Also remember if you were sitting your driving test you would also not have been given a licence to drive would you prefer that or a fine? Because the other alternative is far from pretty.

Dual carriageways and motorways it is 70mph.

Some people in this group are dense. You don't need to put in blanket Stop signs when Giveways are adequate. I guess you still favor retaining the 6 monthly WOF as well because you have crappy pommy cars that clap out between WOFs..

1271031 2012-04-22 22:32:00 I'd agree that many stop signs could be giveways without any negative impact, but disagreeing with the type of sign does not excuse failing to stop. There are many road rules/ signs/ traffic lights/ that I really don't agree with, but that's the law and I follow it or I only have myself to blame. Breaking the law "just a little bit" is still breaking the law.

For example I hate red arrows on intersections, they leave them on wether it's busy or not and in many cases hold traffic up more than they help. But I still won't turn against a red arrow, that would be stupid. (I think red arrows should be on long enough to start straight through traffic flowing and then turned off, if I'm sitting on a green light with no oncoming traffic how does it help to have a red arrow in my face).

It's the same with any traffic or other law I disagree with, it's still the law so I abide by it. We all have the option to try and get laws changed and hardly any of us ever even try, we just complain about them or ignore them and think we are somehow justified because it's a "stupid" law. If you feel strongly enough do something about it, if not suck it up and follow the rules.
