1294625 2012-08-14 11:50:00 Check the DHCP scope of you router and make sure the printer's IP is outside that range. Also don't make it x.x.x.1 or x.x.x.254 as that is usually going to be the router.

Once you've done the above see if you can ping the printer from any machine on the network. If the ping test works the problem is with the individual printer configuration on each computer, otherwise it's a network problem.

Let me know how the above goes and we'll go from there.

1294626 2012-08-15 04:56:00 the printer IP is inside the DHCP scope, it just says beside it "expired"

pinging the IP doesnt work
I havent changed anything since i added the printer to the network, it just stopped two days ago

1294627 2012-08-15 05:11:00 Assign a static IP to the printer, the IP has to be OUTSIDE the DHCP scope. WarNox (8772)
1294628 2012-08-15 05:21:00 i changed the boot method of the printer to DHCP and it no longer shows up in the router as expired

the IP is 192.168.1.4

still shows as offline on the laptop

1294629 2012-08-15 05:37:00 the range for the router is from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 GameJunkie (72)
1294630 2012-08-15 08:33:00 Ok, so with the printer on 192.168.1.4, can you ping it from any of the machines? WarNox (8772)
1294631 2012-08-15 08:36:00 Once you can ping the printer, go into Devices and Printers, right click the printer and select Printer Properties. Go to the Ports tab and select Configure Port, see screenshot. The IP has to match the printers IP.

This is why the printer shouldn't be on DHCP.

1294632 2012-08-15 09:33:00 Yea, like WarnNox says. Also good idea to change the DHCP range to go from, say, 100 to 200. That means all fixed addresses below 100 are yours to play wih and if a modem comes with addr 254 it also is out of the DHCP range. linw (53)
1294633 2012-08-15 10:46:00 i cant ping it from my laptop GameJunkie (72)
1294634 2012-08-15 10:52:00 Can you try plugging the printer into the router directly with a network cable? Isolate any wireless issues.

Before you ping it check the IP on the printer again to make sure it hasn't changed, since it's on DHCP. Also, I think someone else has said it too, but if you browse to the printer's IP, does anything load up (http://192.168.1.4)?
