1294530 2012-08-14 01:26:00 The NB6Plus4Wn is listed at PBtech to be sold in-store only, so thats out. Will try and convince him on the TP-Link TD-W8960N. Nick G (16709)
1294531 2012-08-14 04:18:00 The last TP-Link stuff didn't seem to hold a DSL connection as reliably, it seemed to try and sync faster than everything else I'd use on the same line, and be not *quite* as reliable as some of the others in terms of keeping sync, however if you changed your DSL profile to something more robust that could alleviate the issue (Which I ended up doing for two users). That I believe has been fixed in newer firmware versions though, and again that was 18 -> 24 months ago.

I've found the same thing with their older stuff - example - a 3 year old TD-8840 syncs on a line at 18mbit, but would drop the connection several times a week for no apparent reason, and require a reboot to get up and running again. One of these new TD-W8960Ns on the same line syncs at 15mbit, but is as stable as anything, and there is no noticeable difference in throughput.

So I think they certainly are improving. There is no denying that a lot of their products offer excellent value for money, especially the W8960N, for a SOHO ADSL router.

I have seen the Asus DSL-N12U on PB though, and have been very tempted to try it, it looks great.

1294532 2012-08-14 05:18:00 ^^ Precisely the issue we found that was fixed with the firmware upgrades. Good to hear it's been more of an "Across the board" fix too.

I'm very keen to hear your feedback on Asus models, apparently the WebUI is a bit more "friendly", as first impressions of those TP-Links has scared the %@#$ outta a few people I know :p

1294533 2012-08-14 05:20:00 I will get hold of one of those Asus routers at some stage and have a play. The TP-Link GUI isn't the most beginner-user friendly, that's for sure. :p wratterus (105)
1294534 2012-08-14 06:05:00 My Cisco WAG120N ADSL2+ Modem/Router has lasted for 3 years so far and doesnt drop the connection too much and its about the same price as the tp-link jonovw (16835)
1294535 2012-08-14 06:14:00 I'm using the DSL-N12U B1 Wrat. I think it uses the same firmware as the N12U. Its got a nice interface tho. Only thing at the mo, is ASUS are aware the time in it, is wrong for NZ (The latest FW - Its an hour ahead). And there's quite a few things in it that you can set with time. So, hopefully ASUS fix it

I havent tried the wireless on it yet, but will try it out once I move. With this Canon MX436 printer, I brought a few weeks ago. Then I'll have to buy a few wireless N adapters, to see how they go

I had the modem youre using now but both were crap IMO. One couldn't keep it settings, and the other for some reason, kept resetting itself

1294536 2012-08-14 06:33:00 jonovw, unfortunately I can crash those WAG120N's with great ease.... They're pretty easy to give a hammering. SIP in particular doesn't play nice with them ;)

Speedy,
Mate there any chance you could take a couple of screenshots of the WebUI for me? Also is there any chance you can see if there's the option to disable SIP ALG in the NAT settings?
Also which modem are you saying you *had*?

1294537 2012-08-14 07:04:00 I had this modem Chill. (www.tp-link.com). I had a few probs with it. I dont think it plays nice with Xbox live (from what I've read online).

This is what the interface looks like. The 3rd pic is for wireless. The no device is if you plug a compatible printer into the USB port on the back. You can print to a printer wirelessly.

Or plug a 3G dongle in, and use it as a 3G dongle AP. The clients where it shows 3, will list whats connected with Ethernet. And you can also block whoever when you click on the icon

I'll see if I can find SIP/ALG first. Then post a pic. The man top right, will tell you (with a balloon) whether youre connected or not. The middle pic is if you want to allocate so much bandwith for whatever. It may come in handy for some people

1294538 2012-08-14 07:13:00 Wow OK that's cool, thanks!
Looks quite slick all things considered?! I'm pleasantly surprised :D

1294539 2012-08-14 07:32:00 No probs :)

This is a list of printers it supports. (event.asus.com) not too sure if the Canon MX436 will work. I'll have to try it to find out. Doesn't matter if it doesn't, the printer supports Wireless N. I'll just have to buy some wireless N adapters

Cant see anything in the settings for ALG or SIP...Yet
