1271717 2012-04-25 06:50:00 .... and you think that M$ doesn't do exactly the same thing?Haven't read MS T&C for sky drive. And I'm pretty sure their are not using the content I upload to them to target ads at me plod (107)
1271718 2012-04-25 06:55:00 Since I just had to shut all my browser security and ad-denial stuff down to repair GMail, I noticed that I had a slug of ads that were directed to me and only to my browser interests. I don't think there were any 'cold ads' at all, and they seemed to bulls-eye my current searches, but not really any of my documents.

I'd know if even SOME of my docs were being used, as they are not typical to many other people at all. Nothing bad, illegal or wherever else your mind might wander - I have other interest too, ya know!

Dropbox:

"Your Stuff & Your Privacy: By using our Services you provide us with information, files, and folders that you submit to Dropbox (together, "your stuff"). You retain full ownership to your stuff. We don't claim any ownership to any of it. These Terms do not grant us any rights to your stuff or intellectual property except for the limited rights that are needed to run the Services, as explained below."

Microsoft's SkyDrive:
"5. Your Content: Except for material that we license to you, we don't claim ownership of the content you provide on the service. Your content remains your content. We also don't control, verify, or endorse the content that you and others make available on the service."

Did no one in Mountain View look at that document and say, “I wonder what our users will think of this?” Apparently not. Did anyone say, “Hey, remember when Dropbox did this and had to apologize for an entire week?” I guess not.

Google PR is now trying to walk back the damage. In a statement to Business Insider, a spokesperson tried the “stop, drop, and roll” gambit recommended when you have accidentally set yourself on fire:

A Google spokesperson pointed us to a few passages that should help clear things up. To put it in context, Google’s policy is very similar to Dropbox’s…

Here’s the key passages from Google’s terms of service you should know:

“Some of our Services allow you to submit content. You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in that content. In short, what belongs to you stays yours.”

So Google only needs to access your files in order to deliver them to your Google Drive account on the web, phone, tablet, etc. It’s very limited.

1271723 2012-04-25 21:59:00 Sorry I am a little confused about this. How is google drive or dropbox or any cloud storage site different from Megaupload?

All the services (including megaupload) say they will respond to copyright infringment claims from copyright holders. All sites allow sharing of files. All sites allow encryption of files. All sites offer 'premium' storage for a fee.

None of these cloud storage companies appear to be any different from each other and yet Megaupload is supposedly a criminal and google and dropbox and plenty of others are not?

What exactly is going on here? Is what megaupload offered criminal as claimed or does google drive prove its not criminal at all?

Google has had numerous battles with copyrights, e.g. Books, News, even personal negative rankings in search results, and for Youtube vs Viacom. But generally they were settled, modified, or agreement made. But Megaupload, become more of a vast sharing platform of digital media, resulting initially from storage. Effectively linking out to seemingly copyrighted videos, and money transactions.

1271725 2012-04-26 23:10:00 ..................and another thing::: Hear Ye - Google Driverless Is Here

• Google (click1.newsletters.siliconvalley.com dpchrpvbvb.html), which just this week announced Google Drive (click1.newsletters.siliconvalley.com dpchrpvbvb.html) (on the cloud), is also reportedly looking for partners for its driverless technology (on the roads).

The Wall Street Journal (click1.newsletters.siliconvalley.com dpchrpvbvb.html) reports that Google is talking with automakers to gauge their interest in using the company's software, which allows for automated driving.

The gargantuan tech company first revealed it was testing driverless cars in 2010. (See Google: Robot you can drive my car, beep beep yeah (click1.newsletters.siliconvalley.com dpchrpvbvb.html) :dogeye:
