1271442 2012-04-24 09:52:00 $8 for a fishing licence is very cheap ,$116 for the whole year or $70 winter fishing in NZ which I usually buy but for a occasional Trout fisher can get expensive chasing them Lawrence (2987)
1271443 2012-04-24 11:37:00 Ahhhhh - a Canadian!

Now THOSE are some funny-talking people!

Joe, keep in mind that the Canucks and us down under types all share a common heritage; we thought King George III was OK (within reason), and we also have the same head of state, Queen Elizabeth II ...

And we inherently know how to speak English.

Tread carefully ;)

1271444 2012-04-24 14:12:00 The only reason for colonial expansion - besides finding places to billet political prisoners and other ne'er-do-wells, was looking for a good meal.

My hat's off for the latter reason, not the first so much.

1271445 2012-04-24 23:27:00 We have 1 seperate entity, its called the North Island, they even speak funny up there :p

Definitely a separate odd entity up there, dunno why anyone would choose it as a place to live. But since they do it leaves the SI to be enjoyed by those who appreciate it the most. The US is soo big they even speak different languages in one place to another

Unlike Australia, we all chose to be here :), although some of the early immigrants (1500AD-ish) do fit the latter description.

DIALECTS - not languages. There are idiomatic phrases, but they are largely understandable. Most of THOSE phrases come from European immigrants - so there's that too.

1271449 2012-04-25 03:17:00 [QUOTE=SurferJoe46. S J, are you on Fahrenheit or Celsius temperature up there.? 27 degrees C seems pretty warm, or have i made another stuff up.! BobM (1138)
1271450 2012-04-25 04:01:00 We do Fahrenheit - but I Googled to get the answer just in case I wuz passing out wrong answers . Today we have actually been in the upper-mid-eighties here .

That's not Centigrade .

Lessee::: Subtract 32 from degrees Fahrenheit, Multiply by 5, Divide by 9

80º - 32º = 48º
48º x 5 = 240
240 ÷ 9 = 26 . 6666666666666666667ºC

Rounded off = 27ºC

Today - we were at 30 . 5555555555555556ºC . (That's 87ºF)
