| 1271002 | 2012-04-21 07:00:00 | It says that some the police use some common sense when referring to the incident you highlighted. So, Low level coruption is now called common sense? Not in my world, They should be either doing their job or.....well, doing their job. However whats been lost on most of the posters is the reference is not about speeders but that perception of revenue gathering! If it was just about revenue then why let an unlicensed (no rego) and WOF out of date (expired November) be allowed to park on the roadside of a a state highway on the road causing a visibility issue for a junction!!!! If a cop ticketed that they would have a quota they would have to catch at least 10 speeders to match! That indicative of poor policy, backed up by incompetent enforcement, carried out it seems by corrupt officers. Awesome work. |

| 1271004 | 2012-04-21 08:16:00 | Speeding fines are big enough to bother me! I think the bigger issue is that too many people get away with ignoring their fines, so the honest folk pay, the dishonest folk just do as they please and pay nothing. Probably why that car on the motorway just sat their unticketted. Owner probably had unpaid fines. Why waste more time filling in a ticket that will get thrown away? Seriously, if we want to change behaviours, then we need to get serious about unpaid fines. Pay up pronto, or start spending nights in the cells, or cleaning the loos at the Police station. Things might change a bit then... maybe. |

The fascist in you is coming out.. |

Couple of reasons for that cops leniant attitude! Firstly he knew me, second he understood where I had left my wallet, thirdly he knew I was working and yes I was in a vehicle all marked up. Fact was that a, In going back for my licence I was going to pass the same checkpoint again. Yes common sense the other ***** was just going to issue a ticket. However they both failed in taking the opportunity to nab someone who is blatantly breaking the law by parking a vehicle illegally on the highway! Three offences committed by illegal parking of note all of them costly! Your right it is incompetant and thats the whole point of the thread and yet the same old tune gets played as soon as you mention Police+Road traffic enforcement, automatically the speeding arguement gets thrown in! The driving with excess speed is debate is so boring and drowns out the incompetant driving that involves poor road control and abuse of the system we all contribute to. |

Er no that is not the case! First it is on a Highway not a motorway beyond Auckland you call them goat tracks :) Secondly it is actually on the Highway passing through a town ie on the shoulder which is wide enough to park and finally the owner owns a business and has the vehicle for sale. Pretty much the vehicle should be removed yet no one wants to take responsibilty to force the issue. Other than that your right heavy approach needed just look at Europe for an example! I remember trying to cross the swiss border without the motorway user licence on the windscreen. Until I understood what I had done I was treated like a criminal arrested on the spot. Now thats an approach that would go down well here, except imagine the outcry. |
