1294959 2012-08-15 06:02:00 I have Farmside (IPSTAR) satellite connection to the standard LAN IPSTAR modem and would like to connect this modem to a wireless router for local (two laptops and a tablet) wireless reception.

I currently have the laptops connected through a D-Link multi-port RJ45 connection setup from the modem. Can I connect a wireless router direct to the current modem and disconnect the hard wiring now being used on the laptops? In other words, does a wireless router normally accept the RJ45 from the modem?

If possible, what sort of wireless router would be acceptable (without breaking the bank)?

Cheers

Try something like this router: pbtech.co.nz

Basically your IPSTAR modem goes into the WAN port, and your other PC's all go either wirelessly or into the 4x LAN ports.

1294962 2012-08-16 01:28:00 I have read a few manuals on some routers and they state that specific routers shouldn't be used behind a satellite router. Any comments? garyasta (1151)

1294964 2012-08-16 05:11:00 Well some are better than others, but that's across the board. The suggested router will work fine. Chilling_Silence (9)
1294965 2012-08-16 06:58:00 Yes, a good choice chilli, the USB port will allow external hard drive to act as a Network storage. SolMiester (139)
