1294853 2012-08-15 01:59:00 I have a WD My Book 2T USB 3.0 external drive. Been no problem. So have bought yesterday an identical one to increase storage as I do video media.
On booting up no sign of the new drive but the old drive available. If I boot up again with the old drive removed I can see the new one all operational. But when the two drives are connected you can only see the one that is on the USB3.0 first port. Never the second whichever order they are in. If I connect both drives to a USB 3.0 hub still only one drive. If I put one of the drives on a USB 2.0 port - same result.
Is it because the two drives are identical and if so how do I change this please?
The computer is a high-end Asus 17" graphics laptop only a few months old with 1T onboard.

1294854 2012-08-15 02:06:00 Go to disk management and format the new hdd Speedy Gonzales (78)
1294855 2012-08-15 02:08:00 Does the drive show in device managment? Nick G (16709)
1294856 2012-08-15 02:13:00 Yes it does appear in device management and says all drivers correct and latest. When latest drive is the only one connected to the computer it shows all WD files supplied with the disk and you can read/write no problem. Colin Salt (16866)

1294859 2012-08-15 04:25:00 Or simply rename the volume? MushHead (10626)
1294860 2012-08-15 06:16:00 What a mission. I reformatted the drive and then changed the volume - neither worked.
Just been into Disk Management and saw drive was off-line. Reason "The disk is Offline because it has a signature collision with another similar disk that is online. Right clicked over that and a box came up asking if you want to make the disk online with a different signature. On yes it all works. that was three hours worth but thanks everybody for giving me encouragement.

1294861 2012-08-15 09:40:00 That's interesting.

I wonder if you had allocated different drive letters (up the alphabet out of windows auto allocation range) to each of them whether this would have avoided the problem you had?

1294862 2012-08-15 09:42:00 I had the exact same problem with a WD My Book 500 Gb USB 3.0 external drive that I bought from Noel Leeming a couple of days ago. I came across this thread and followed the advice and solved the problem.

It showed up in disk management as a blank disk. I was easily able to give it a letter and then format it. It is now ready for data transfer. :thanks
