1294468 2012-08-13 09:50:00 A bit of history first when we went up to Whangarei in the 2nd week of July 2012, one night when we where in Whangarei my old Acer Aspire 3002 WLMi laptop died (Running Win XP SP3) (Don't know why or how it died, but I guess it was hardware :groan:) (It was about 7 years old!) .

Anyway a week or so after we get back to Auckland Dick Smith was having a laptop sale on and dad found me a another laptop :D An Acer Aspire V3-571G running Windows 7 Home premium .

After they delivered the laptop to the house, and I got it all up and running and when I tried to connected it to our wifi network it would not connect it just says “Cannot connect to “network name here” :stare: , but as soon as we take off the security (The Wireless Encryption is WPA-PSK) it can connect to our network fine :annoyed:

And my Acer Aspire One 522 netbook can connect to our secured wifi network fine, plus my old Acer Aspire 3002 WLMi laptop could also connect to our secured wifi network fine!, and also our two Tivo's can also connect to our secured wifi network fine .

The wifi is provided by a 3Com office Connect ADSL Wirelss 11g Firewall Router, which is connected to our modem which is a TP-Link TD8840 ADSL2+ Modem .

Any ideas? :help:

Yes, we even changed it, as we thought it may have been too long!

So, the acer can find the SSID, but can't connect?
Does your wireless card have the latest drivers installed?

1294472 2012-08-13 10:59:00 WEP, or WPA or WPA2 encryption are you using?

Came across a laptop which couldn't connect to WEP but could connect to WPA2 without any problem. Don't ask me why!

Yep, unless it's an open wifi hotspot, then it can connect.

I would think so, since is a brand new laptop.

The only encryptions the 3Com support is:
WPA-PSK (No Server) (Which is what we are using)
128-bit WEP
64-bit WEP
WPA (With Radius Server)
