1271414 2012-04-23 09:16:00 Was thinking about it but open beta weekend was quite short from memory and was just going to pickup the game on release which is only a few weeks off anyway. icow (15313)
1271415 2012-04-23 10:10:00 Ends shortly, but I reckon I'll download it now and see if I can give it a quick whirl before the night is up :D Thanks for the heads up! Chilling_Silence (9)
1271416 2012-04-23 20:04:00 Didn't get it installed before bedtime. Woke up this morning and it's done, but the open beta weekend is over :-/ Chilling_Silence (9)
1271417 2012-04-23 20:06:00 Been playing the Beta for about a week myself, enjoying it but I struggle to see any reason to multiplayer it really. Plays very much like Diablo II with updated graphics.
I tried the wizard and barbarian so far, both got to the end of the beta without any trouble and were fun to play.

1271418 2012-04-23 21:10:00 Yeah I liked the last two, and I watched the first 20 minutes of somebody playing it online. Looks cool, but yeah I'm curious how Multiplayer will fit in to it shy of it starting to become an MMORPG and having a healer class keep the tank alive while the DPS pwns big mobs.... 1271419 2012-04-23 23:11:00 I might try the demon hunter next, but I'm starting to get sick of repeating the starting area already. A couple of things I like, the stash (chest in town) is shared with all of your characters (ok this isn't really new but still good), and when you train the blacksmith on one character he keeps that training for all your characters. What this means is you can collect materials and train up the blacksmith as you go and then when you play a new character you can use those materials to craft new gear straight away or use gear stored in the stash that didn't suit your original character.

The barbarian is satisfyingly big and there's a real sense of impact when he hits things, I had to smile the first time a big finishing move flung my target off the screen and left a 6ft long blood stain on the ground. The wizard spells also are graphically quite impressive and easy to use. Any wow players will notice a lot of spells and attacks with the same or similar names and effects as wow, blizzards pedigree is obvious here.

Honestly I expected more changes in playstyle, other than updated graphics it plays very much like Diablo II or even torchlight (which I really should get back to and finish one of these days). I suppose this is good for fans, but they could have added a bit more. I can see me finishing it at least once, but after that I don't know how likely I am to keep playing.

The requirement for an internet connection means they better make sure the servers are reliable, so far on the beta there have been several days I could't play because the server was down. When you are playing through solo this is incredibly annoying.

1271420 2012-04-23 23:23:00 I have no interest in playing multi-player or spending real money on items as I have read about.
Can you guys tell me if this is worth it as a single player game?

1271421 2012-04-23 23:33:00 Only managed to play it for an hour or so last night - the downloader is buggy and kept insisting that I was only 45% of the way through the download when I could see in my logs that I had downloaded 3.7GB!!

Unfortunately my laptop's video driver was not up to date (and, I suspect, not grunty enough) and the play was quite laggy. As mentioned above, play is very similar to Diablo II, but with nicer graphics.

I think so, that's how I'll most likely be playing it. What I don't know is how long the game is and wether it'll feel like it was worth the purchase by the time you finish.
I am on the closed beta so I'll be playing a bit longer, almost missed out because yahoo's spam filter put the beta invite in the spam folder but at least I got to give it a good go. Between this and SWTOR and the next WoW expansion I'll have more games than time to play them.
