1271212 2012-04-22 09:11:00 I have been asked to join a "march" against the proposed Taupo Council's long term draft plan, part of that being my rates will increase by 23% in the new rating year. I have signed the petition and sent in a written submission stating my concerns at this.
Ok, I don't think I could march very far, would be more like a hobble in my case!

To be honest Taupo has more to offer and subsequently cost more to run than its neighbour that Taupo Business milk an income from that neighbour you will note has the a top ten day hike in the world and winter playground yet Taupo markets itself as being the place to stay. Meanwhile over the boundary the locals there get screwed by a Power Lines Supplier with a methodology of pricing uniques anywhere in New Zealand killing any future growth hand helping to inflate the rates of those that choose to live or own property there. The same Lines Company also serves the Turangi area so has an effect on Taupos growth however minimal. That said I would rather Taupo amalgamated with that council than the other option of Wanganui who do not see the importance of Tourism to the region. Taupo like I said milks the area already so would be a better choice to share with!

Good luck with that partition.
