1473094 2020-11-22 19:22:00 There are ads on the radio for Black Friday sales but Black Friday (Nov 13th) has been and gone but they are advertising it as though it is still to come. :illogical Roscoe (6288)

But that's not correct. Black Friday was a short while ago - Friday November 13th.

1473098 2020-11-22 20:14:00 Black Friday originated in America and its meaning refers to the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, which has also traditionally been a holiday itself for many employees. It is typically a day full of special shopping deals and heavy discounts and is considered as the kickoff of the holiday shopping season. smithie 38 (6684)

As opposed to any Friday the 13th which is called that in support of our pagan gods.

Thank you for that Smithie.

So what has that got to do with us? We don't have a Thanksgiving holiday - I don't even know what that is - so why do we have a Black Friday when we don't have Thanksgiving and we are not American?

1473101 2020-11-22 21:29:00 Lots of cheap goods at some stores, that's the main point of Black Friday in America and now here as well. zqwerty (97)

Don't you like having a sale or do you always buy at the maximum retail price for everything??

It's not the sale I object to, it's the reason why we are having the sale. What has American Black Friday got to do with New Zealand?
