1472927 2020-11-11 21:13:00 This is a bit disturbing

"To check whether you have any compromised passwords, Chrome sends a copy of your usernames and passwords to Google...."
security.googleblog.com

So Google now thinks its OK to send your Chrome saved logins & passwords to google data centres .
one step too far , in data collection . They claim its for security checks, but I'd bet once uploaded , never deleted .

1472928 2020-11-11 21:34:00 Do you use passwords in WIN10? It shows you the same thing. I was logged into WIN10 recently, and was looking in my security settings, found passwords for alot of sites I'd used but not ticked save. They were hashed out, but I could check a box to show the password the_bogan (9949)

In order for some things to work properly (eg network shares) , Win needs to cache(?) some passwords

However Win10 doesnt send all your unrelated logins & passwords up to Microsofts servers . Not that I know of (assuming a local Win a/c)
Chrome does sync passwords into the cloud if you login to chrome & have that option enabled.

This is taking it 1 step too far though .

If you've got multiple devices and are sharing favourites/passwords etc, this then is why it's going to google . It's a balance between privacy and convienience .

When we were in lockdown and SWMBO was working from home, they use Google business, and on the Computer I gave her I had put in a fresh install. She signed in to google chrome as normal, then the following day on one of my workshop Computers ( which she has never been on) All of a sudden ALL her work Shortcuts, passwords -- Everything suddenly appeared on the workshop PC. WTF !! What was strange though they only appeared on one PC not others. The only thing I can think of is the One it did appear I was signed into Google (my own account, completely different to hers) so unless it decided that it was a good idea to sync because of being on the same LAN -- Who Knows.

The user names are completely different, and google Chrome was the cause of the sharing. Other Browsers she used ( MS EDGE) Didn't sync.

1472933 2020-11-12 03:49:00 " password security on both Android and iOS devices by telling you if the passwords you’ve asked Chrome to remember have been compromised "

Well I never ask anything to remember passwords.
I DIY.
