Their options are get fiber installed by chorus and the facility will be there for the future also . If they take away their router, some some smart person plug their own router into the ONT and get free internet? The other options they are considering are 4G wireless home broadband . Cheers . Is it a Hall, as in Community hall type Blding . Sounds like more trouble than its worth, just get wireless internet . If you get Fibre internet, you'll have to sign up for a year with many ISP's (not all) When you close the internet a/c with the ISP, that fibre internet connection will be deactivated . You'll also need to get written permission from the owner to get fiber run into the building (Chorus requirement) If you want to keep the internet connection alive , and only available to you , then any clever sod can use their router to get free internet (more or less) . They will have to guess what ISP , as router setup is different for some ISPs Some ISP's require a specific login & pass setup in the router , many no longer require that (any login/pass will do, more or less) You could put a locked metal box around the ONT & Router to stop others using it .	1101 (13337)
1467307	2020-03-11 22:02:00	Yes it is a community hall . They are tenants . The landlords are OK for them to pursue fiber . Yep, they have been in the building for quite some time but yes some ISPs offer without contracts, but the need to pay for the router, connection fee and lose the 1 or 2 free months of internet . Alternatively they could just pay the cancellation fee when and if it arises before the 12 months . They are thinking of going with Skinny . B/c Skinny can provide a 4G connection for the interim and then fiber when it is arranged . Or simply take the ONT power cable off, doubt others would have something like that .	Nomad (952)

Many do not insist on contracts, Spark have that option also. And of course, the ONT stays, as it is Chorus equipment, the connection is the ISPs. The next person can easily sign up without needing to wait for the equipment to be installed first though. Eventually everywhere will have an existing ont.	piroska (17583)
1467309	2020-03-12 02:14:00	Many do not insist on contracts, Spark have that option also . . going from my Spark No Contract ADSL to Fibre , I had to sign up for a year . The "unplan" its called now, min 12 months . Fibre still not connected , 6 mths later , so Im still on ADSL :-( There are ISPs with no contact fibre options, but I'd bet you'd have to buy a comparable router , no freebies	1101 (13337)
