1466678 2020-02-14 23:11:00 a) Opinions please. Some months ago when I had problems with Office 365 a reply from Microsoft criticised CCleaner and said I should just use Standard Microsoft features for keeping my laptop clean.
I have tried that under C:\ Properties Disk Clean but am dubious about its level of detection.
I have compared Temp files ,Downloads etc deleted per Microsoft then compared to CCleaner or Glary Utilities.
Both the third party apps seem to find much greater volumes to clean up than Microsoft.

Comments sought please

b) Using Microsoft Disk Clean is an option to delete Thumbnails. I am unsure if I should select this as I do not know if there is an adverse impact or exactly what this term means in the above context.
Guidance please

1466679 2020-02-14 23:48:00 I use ( as well as install on customers PC's) Ccleaner, none have had any troubles causing problems with Office.

Of course MS are going to blame a third party Cleaner.

What you can do is open Ccleaner, Applications - and untick Office.

1466680 2020-02-16 22:10:00 If in doubt, stop fiddling :)

There is no urgent need to do this. Its been years since I ran any sort of cleanup on my home or work PC
There is no need to del every tmp file that MS's diskclean may miss

If you are in that great a need to free HD space you really need a bigger HD
You'll never be able to properly cleanup the winsxs folder anyway, take a look at the size of that one. So we are all kidding ourselves .

1466681 2020-02-16 22:19:00 Win 10 's built in cleaner seems to do the job quite well, safely and automaticaly. I no longer bother with anything else. As 1101 said above if you are short of space a bigger HD is the answer. CliveM (6007)

1466683 2020-02-19 20:05:00 Interesting opinions. FYI - I have hoards of spare disk space.
I have always thought better to try to keep disk as clean as possible -hence focus on old Temp files etc,
Could someone please guide me re b) of my original post-Thimbnails
Thanks

1466684 2020-02-19 20:12:00 If you actually click on the word Thumbnails it will describe exactly what it cleans out. ( same for any other thats clicked on)

in 'disk cleanup'
Also, click the box that says 'clean up my system files' . That will clean up even more .
FYI : Not everything you tick allways gets removed .

be carefull with cleanup tools if you are having issues with the PC, they can remove errors logs and rollback options
