1466585 2020-02-10 00:35:00 Randomly, my computer beeps - 4 short beeps while booting, it continues the booting process, and Windows 10 loads fine. no issues.

It happens 3 times in the past 3 weeks or so.

Mother Board: Asus Z97-A

What does it indicate?

1466586 2020-02-10 00:49:00 ASUS beep codes . 4 short System timer failure

Memory related problems, as in not making contact fully (read as dust / dirt in the slots), or even a failed memory module or motherboard. Remove the modules, blow them out on the board, replace one at a time and retry, also check to make sure the correct amount of installed memory is showing ( in case one has failed completely)

Suggested test from another forum:
Asus motherboards are usually American Megatrends' AMI BIOS. and if that's the case four beeps mean System Timer failure: Timer 1 on the mainboard does not work properly. This can mean that your motherboard has failed but before throwing it out there have been cases were the memory has failed on one dimm but not the other, so pull one dimm at a time and try to start it and see what happens

1466587 2020-02-10 04:24:00 It doesn't fail completely, that's the difficult part!

Even when it beeps, it still boots to Win10 OK. Reliability check showed a few errors but, I think they are related to the fast start up -- that I did not shut down properly... or sort of.

You think running Memory check will produce something more obvious?

You think running Memory check will produce something more obvious? It may boot but its giving memory Error beeps. ( as already posted) www.lifewire.com

Testing ( by removing the modules) should tell you which one. BUT it may not actually be a module, it could be One of the DIMM slots playing up. 1st you find out which, the if its a Memory Stick replace it if its the actual Slot then hopefully you have a spare thats not being used or if not motherboards failing.

1466590 2020-02-10 09:05:00 It might be memory related but the easiest problem to check is the SYSTEM TIMER or simply the bios clock. In which case the cmos battery may just be failing and the time is wrong. Nowadays the bios clock is updated by the OS automatically so it may never be seen as an issue.

You could choose to ignore it if things work fine or just replace the battery and see if the beeping disappears. If it continues, maybe it is the RAM and it'll reveal itself in nasty corruptive ways or even an unbootable machine.

1466591 2020-02-11 00:01:00 Opened up the case this morning, found the rear cooling stuck; replaced with a new one. Took the opportunity to have a general clean up.

Removed the RAM sticks, cleaned and put them back, Removed the old CMOS battery, replaced with a new one.

Reconnected all cables, booted and received the same beep code. Pressed Del to enter BIOS setup - reset the Date and Time, and all other settings. Exit and Windows loaded OK.

Will see how it goes for the next couple of days. ..

1466592 2020-02-11 00:43:00 Is the computer showing the correct amount of installed memory.

Got a few here that even though you may have 8GB total ( 2 x4's) only 4GB is showing ( even in the BIOS) yet dont give any errors.

1466593 2020-02-11 03:46:00 Windows is showing the correct amount of RAM installed. bk T (215)
1466594 2020-02-14 07:48:00 Done all the necessary, ran memory test with Memtest86 found no problem, but it still beeps, more often, almost every time after I switched OFF from the wall outlet power socket.

Downloaded the latest BIOS update (Beta version), flashed it and restarted. The beeps have gone - only the normal 1 beep.

Has been OK for the past two days, I intentionally switched OFF from the wall outlet several times just to test; no issues!

Don't quite understand why, could it be the BIOS corrupted?
