1466675 2020-03-09 03:39:00 Wainui, this raises the old discussion about whether we should turn everything off daily, or just leave it idling . I am not aware of this ever having been resolved, but it seems to me that electronics should work best if kept at least warm, rather than suffer cold to hot transitions every time we turn them on . What do you think?

Do you leave you TV on & running 24/7 :) What about your car ?

Yes , ideally in a perfect world its best if kept on at a lowish stable temp . Computers used to be on 24/7 in a separate air conditioned temp controlled rooms

Being on 24/7 doesnt mean its running at an ideal temp for long life . Some components could be running quite hot : thats not good for long life .
And allways on can also wear things out quicker : fans , capacitors etc .

In 5-8 years its junk regardless . Just turn it all off at night .

I have servers running 24/7 out in the workshop, never does them any harm, but when you go out there at night, even though all are headless ( no monitors, everything is done via remote) the fans still make quite a bit of noise at night and with all the LED's flashing away from servers, Switches it looks like Xmas :) , same with the computers in my lounge, if I forget to turn off the media Center soon hear it when the TV is off and everything else is quiet, normal usage you would never hear it.

Turning them off has nothing to do with wear and tear, just less items turned on at night.

I always turn off the Office and actual workshop PC's as some updates require a restart, and its easier to do it when you aren't going to be using them. There have been countless times computers / other hardware has been restarted and fixes some problems.

Routers for example -- normally they route and do their jobs majority of the time perfectly fine, sending data packets to the correct locations, but every so often they get their ducks out of a row (had this pic a while now) :D

and really muck up things up, simply rebooting the router (as CliveM posted) fixes the problems.

Had the same with SWMBO and others (Android) phone go stupid a few times now, and all I get is HELP!! Press the power button reboot it - hand it back working - Real technical eh ;)

1466677 2020-03-11 07:15:00 So yes I had tried multiple reboot tablet.
But today found that the IP ? was incorrect on the tablet so I re typed it in........ and it works.
What I found strange was, I have no printer that works at home, and only the one at work so how on earth did it change settings if the printer doesnt get turned off at work ?

But it works :D
Happy now :D
