42221	2002-04-06 09:36:00	Hi B m's recommendation of Gimp a few posts down caught my interest and I checked out the website. It looks quite complex to set up, modify/configure/update and run so I wondered if any novice (or ex-novice) users could give me the benefit of their experience. I'd like to know if installation is relatively trouble free, if it will run on Win2K and if it is reasonably intuitive to use. I assume that it does have Help files. Cheers Billy 8-{)	Guest (0)

42223	2002-04-06 10:45:00	The gimp is a lot like photoshop, it takes a bit of learning but it does a lot more than the simpler packages. There is quite a bit of documentation at the main gimp site (www.gimp.org/docs.html) but I picked up enough from playing with it (and photoshop). The windows site is pretty ugly but the download is well packaged, its just a standard windows .exe installer wizard thing. The actual link is: www.gimp.org The only real configuration I had to do was the first time I ran it was confirm where it put its settings. The main complaint I have about it is it uses seperate windows for the tools, brushes, layers etc which doesn't work very well on windows because it fills up the taskbar and makes minimising it anoying (although Winkey-D works).
