42319 2002-04-07 01:51:00 I have a computer that i purchased recentley from a company that will remain nameless (starts with pc ends with company) that i am having major problems with. It has a AMD duron 1.2GHz processor, 256 sdram, and a 40gig hd . I am running windows xp home and having major problems with system crashes and freezes. some times it seems to freeze every 10 minutes for about 40 minutes. this normally happens when im conected to the internet but still happens when im offline sometimes. I am only running one application at a time and it still happens.
I have done virus scans using pc cillin which came with the comp, but they dont find anything. I have also scan everthing i have downloaded.

What could be causing this and should i take it in to the store to get checked out??

Also my main board user manual says that it has a 32 bit agp slot for both 2x and 4x AGP. when i inquired at the place i got my pc about upgrading the graphics to a 64mb gforce 2 i was told that i needed to get a whole new mainboard. I was told elsewhere that i didnt.
what is the right answer?

how do you delete people from the msn msg dropdown box as my cousins have been using my computer to chat.

i think thats about all, theres probally something else i forgot though, any help would be appreciated.

42320 2002-04-07 02:14:00 If your computer is pretty much exactly how it was when you first took charge of it (ie you haven't added any bits and pieces or been fiddling where you shouldn't) then I would be taking it back where it came from, Pronto!

It is not doing its job and they are obliged to fix it.

Good luck.

42321 2002-04-07 02:36:00 Further to the first reply, quote them the Consumer Guarantees Act if they start trying to get out of it or blame others (a likely occurance). The CGA states that goods or service supplied must be fit for the purpose intended. Obviously they are not Guest (0)
42322 2002-04-07 03:23:00 Ok, i bought this PC from the same firm, Dunedin Branch. Lots of problems to start with. After 3 returns to the store over 8 weeks (Xmas interviened) it got sorted out.
Problems associated with the mother board, keyboard and software were finally resolved, with a new hard drive, board, and the removal of some pre-installed programs. We now hae a sweet running system except for one small nag. See my next post.

Cheers.....John

42323 2002-04-07 03:59:00 Hi again, the only progams i have added are a couple of games as well as a couple of programmes such as delphi and encyclopedia. As far as fiddling goes i have just changed backgrounds and startup music and taken away things such as mouse shadow and menu shadow and animation using tweak UI for xp. Is this too much, i will be taking it into the shop again soon to see what they can do. Guest (0)
