42360 2002-04-07 04:28:00 Hello - I'm a uni student in Auckland and want to set up a new internet account here in our flat. SPLURGE is a new ISP that I found via the Consumer's web page and it offers an unlimited amount of surfing for $9.95 / month. Anyone out there use it? Any troubles, such as busy signals or slow downloading?? Thanks. - Dave Guest (0)

42362 2002-04-07 08:48:00 I used it in the days of when it was a free ISP for Auckland only.
It was extremely slow then. (Though this may have changed.)

They do say on the site (splurge.net.nz) that connection speeds are limited to 33.6K.

Probably not the best choice for surfing the net nowadays but if you're really scraping for money then there's no harm in trying it I guess.

42364 2002-04-07 13:35:00 I have been using Splurge for about 12 months with virtually no problems. First time dial-up connections 99.999% of the time. (None of this 23 minutes to get onto PF1 that someone reported for Xtra a week or so ago)! Its download speeds are probably slow by general standards but web pages seem to come up reasonably well and if you will not be downloading gigatrucks that may not be a problem, though it might be frustrating if you are thoroughly used to a system with lots of horsepower. If you want to give it a go check on its minimum sign-up period - I think it's 3 months. Guest (0)
