42614 2002-04-08 09:56:00 Hi

Is it Paradise or just me?

My connection has been agonizingly slow for the past few days, especially at loading the first page or 2 or 3. Its just taken me 1/2 hr to log on.

Any people out there who have a Paradise account please let me know how your getting on.

Running: ie 6, ol 6 on a 56k modem. Outpost firewall (no settings changed lately) PC-cillin with pop3 trap enabled.

Have tried killing running programs/tasks with no luck.

Thanks for your help

42617 2002-04-08 11:24:00 Hi Tweak'e

Thanks

Speed = 45-48 used to be 52 (windows info from task bar)

Download = Starts at 6-7k/ then drops back under 3 and as low as 1.XX . Used to be around 4.5+

Has run fine with the firewall untill now, if its that.

One thing I do have is Ntsrv running in the background which is Net Service MFC application (according to the firewall, listening on port 4612) this is part of Virtual Drive a drive emulator.

I'v also noticed that somebody has installed Half Life with Sierra online utilities recently (will have a chat to the lad shortly)

Any clues from that lot?

Cheers

42618 2002-04-08 22:07:00 Paradise is fine with me, and significantly better than it was a few months back, as per download speeds. Guest (0)
42619 2002-04-09 01:05:00 May not be relevant but I have a problem with my fax machine on the same line as pc. With the fax connected to the line I connect to Paradise at 45 - 48K. Disconnect fax and connection speed goes up to 49333K This is regular, not occasionally.

42621 2002-04-09 09:02:00 I'm running 56K W98 Outpost & Opera on Paradise and its as good as its ever been. But I did have some slowdown problems a few weeks ago and rang support at paradise, got an excellent person who really knew his stuff. In the end he suggested I add AT&F+MS=12 to the beginning of the 'Extra Settings' on the modem. This has fixed the problem if not improved it from before I had the original problem. Apparently if your dailup speed is slow it is best to reduce the setting to 11 if in doubt try either one to see which is best. Restart to apply the setting. Guest (0)
42622 2002-04-09 10:56:00 I think it's Paradise, well it used to be Paradise before it got so slow.
Something has changed - has anybody thought to contact 'them' and find out what was the last thing they've done. I know i haven't - till now. I'll let you know.
