2002-04-09 02:10:00 | I subscribe to many Computer Magazines, and once again my latest copy of Net Guide arrived in the mail today, I read magazines pretty fast, cover to cover around one hour a magazine the size of Net Guide. I read all the main Computer/Internet/ect magazines, Computer World, PC World, Internet Magazine, Net Guide, PC Authority. Plus a small number of others that come out once or twice a year. And I must comment, Net Guide has got so boring - I have got every issue from issue 4, and even that is more interesting then the lasted one out now. I think Net Guide has not really changed that much over the years for long time readers such as me, they are just drumming up the same stories and topics over and over again. Such as the latest copy about SPAM, Net Guide has been over SPAM so many times I am going blue in the face - its just a bore - its not like they have came out with a new and better way to combat it, just the same! And I know Net guide targets the not advance users, but under there helpdesk page (page 110) someone writes in about what files they can delete from there computer safety, and the comment from the helpdesk is very lucking detail, and pretty unhelpful really. And also do you remember when New Zealand Net Guide took huge world wide Magazine Company IDG to court over copying its image and what not. Now it seem Net Guide is copying them now with the CD and the front cover of magazine, and now Net Guide can?t market there magazine as New Zealand Net Guide, because they are sell it in Australia now to, with the same front cover, just check out http://www.netguide.com.au. I am now really enjoying IDG publications at the moment! What do you think??

2002-04-09 02:45:00 | THE PREVIOUS POSTING WAS NOT A PAID ADVERTISEMENT FOR IDG. But seriously, interesting what you say Andrew. I don't normally read NetGuide (basically because I don't normally buy magazines, I subscribe to heaps due to my work. It's not some sad pathetic loyalty thing) so I can't comment. I do know that the iMag people work really hard to come up with stories for it that are interesting, different and relevant. I also know they regularly ignore some of my suggestions. I read iMag a little, but heaps less than PC World, but my wife is the opposite. She reads iMag cover to cover but would only skim PCW. As for replies to help questions in NetGuide, check out the last one in the front page of NZ Herald this morning. Is it me or was the answer completely irrelevant to the question? I shouldn't pick on them, being competition and all, but I just didn't get the question at all. Is it just me? I struggle to ensure that the questions are at least slightly different, but you so often get the same ones that repeating them is often a good idea. Anyway, I should probably shut up on this thread, as I am thoroughly biased (hard not to be, I suppose). robo.

2002-04-09 03:26:00 | Yes I am also finding that NetGuide is becomming a crap magazine. The problem with iMag though is that sometimes the articles in it are regurgitated from PC World and vice versa. I find atomic to be a good magazine when it comes to hardware reviews, but they're losing their touch as well. Pretty much I stick to NZ PC World and atomic magazine. But I still buy other magazines if I see that they have a interesting article, a good cover CD, or I just need another magazine to read. JM

2002-04-09 04:11:00 | Yeah I have found Net Guide has become a very dull magazine. I remember when it first came out and I subscribe to it because it was a great magazine. I was such a newbie to the net, it was just what I needed. However I have moved on and don't believe Net Guide has. | Guest (0) | |
2002-04-09 09:05:00 | I started off getting PCworld(USA edition) then dumped that for PCPro(UK) and now also get PCWorld(NZ) which I find the best. I gave up the US edition because it seemed like MS were the only ones creating software. Got a copy of Netguide when I joined my latest ISP and thought it was almost a complete waste of time. Robo and company keep up the good work the latest is the greatest.
