42723 2002-04-09 01:16:00 Hi, I solved one problem and now have another. After defragging with Speed Disk which fixed up some files etc. I get the message when I boot up-'Invalid disk' (something else, lost my peice of paper) then press a key. Like you have a floppy in but theres no floppy. Its my hard drive which has lost its boot sector or FAT or something. I can view all the files in Dos ok using a win98 boot disk but how do I get the HD to boot again.
Thanks,
asdex.

42724 2002-04-09 02:15:00 What you need to do is place your Windows 98 CDROM in the drive, and boot off that. You may need to set up the BIOS to use the CDROM drive as the first boot device.

Once it's booting off the CD, select an option that doesn't include running setup. Probably the one that also loads CDROM drivers.

Once at the command prompt, run 'fdisk /mbr'. This will fix the Master Boot Record (provided you haven't done anything really funky to the partition table as well) and your machine will then happily boot into Windows.

Miggles.
