42646 2002-04-08 11:20:00 In a moment of madness I downloaded ICQ 2002a.I now find that everytime I go to Outlook Express to send an e-mail I have my ICQ details on the page. How did this happen and how can I get rid of it?
My OS is XP Prof.
P.S. I think a FAQ page is a great idea. I cant be the only one this dopey surely!!

42647 2002-04-08 12:05:00 Reasons why this has occured:
1. Its ICQ. It's crap.
2. Its ICQ. They still only have a BETA format of the software. BETA = Pre-Release, generally for testers only.
3. It's ICQ. You have an ALPHA format (the little A after the version). These are generally internal releases only. As in for only Miralibis (or whoever they are) employees.

Something went wrong with the company, they don't know what is what. The think 'alpha' is cool to have as part of their version name. The ICQ software is bad, and MSN (Windows messenger on xp) or Yahoo should be used in it's place. Although Yahoo uses like 15mb of RAM when idleing, so just go with MSN, and all shall be well.

42648 2002-04-08 12:32:00 Hi. Unfortunately your version of ICQ is notoriously buggy - I suspect that this could be the reason for this anomaly. Here's the simple solution for many problems - just re-install the program over the top of your existing version. However if this doesn't work, you may need to follow the recommended backups of your buddy list, un-install ICQ, then reinstall it from scratch.

The above really do help in many cases. Also, ICQ is a fantastic Instant Messenging program, well designed and extremely useful and popular - and despite what anyone may say - always use the latest version where you can - the security flaws that are always exploited in any software are almost always repaired in the latest versions, and this is especially true of ICQ.

42649 2002-04-08 13:20:00 There is nothing *too* much wrong with ICQ.

To fix your problem you can delete it off the bottom of the message before you send it by high lighting and pushing delete.

To stop it from reoccuring, go into Outlook Express. Go into the Tools menu and select Options. Click on the Signatures tab and change your signature settings.

42650 2002-04-08 20:45:00 Never had any problems with ICQ.
Running 2002a ok, but then I dont have or use Outlook Express.
If you go the MSN/Passport way then you are playing into Microsofts hands and plans to take over the whole world, you are selling your soul to the devil :-)

42651 2002-04-09 00:08:00 hi anon, nice to see you back ;-)

2000a is NOT an alpha ver. alpha vers are not released to joe public. there have been several 'a' beta vers.

however icq is beta so always exspect bugs

if you really feel like it you can sign up for the alpha testing but i would not recommend it.

42652 2002-04-09 02:14:00 You might want to check out Trillian.

http://www.ceruleanstudios.com

Trillian supports IRC, AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo Messenger.

I run it, as I have friends on both MSN and ICQ, and can't be bothered running two chat programs. It hasn't crashed or done anything weird on my system (Win98 & XP). Friends have since started to run it too, as they prefer it to the others.

42653 2002-04-09 11:07:00 so... ICQ get's worse as it makes further releases. mmm, that sounds about right.

uses more ram, has more bugs, less people use it, it has a flower for an icon --what more could you ask for.
Brilliant. well done ICQ developers ;)
