42753 2002-04-09 04:01:00 Hi there: I have Win98Se installed on my machine set to run at 1024x768. It is quite stable most of the time and then occasionally, when I restart my machine it has decided to run at 640x480.

It only takes a few seconds to put it right, but it is annoying to have to do so.

42754 2002-04-09 07:33:00 Sounds as if it's restarting into Safe Mode.

Try booting into windows as normal, change the resolution, then shutdown and start the computer.

42755 2002-04-09 09:25:00 I had the same problem until I discovered the problem only occurred when I turned on the PC without the monitor on and windows loaded before I turned on the monitor (My PC Company monitor won't auto start - you have to push the on button every time - damned annoying really!). I'm guessing as Windows can't detect a monitor if its turned off then it starts in the default VGA mode - dunno, I'm only guessing here. It always start in the hi-res mode if I remember to turn the monitor on first. Guest (0)
42756 2002-04-09 11:55:00 Hi Ray: I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I will test and reply if you have it right.

Thanks

42757 2002-04-09 12:50:00 A couple of weeks ago my friends kid was on there computer when he did a reset when it locked up and when it restarted you couldn't do anything because everything was so enlarged. I have never seen it like that and it took a play around in safe mode to get it right.
Have you tried a new video driver.
