| 43050 | 2002-04-10 07:21:00 | Good Evening, I've had a problem for some time now when I start up the computer. It defaults to 'Microsoft Windows 98 Start up Menu' Then I have to start at 5 - Step-by-step confirmation. It appears there is a VXD file that wont load. Hope that is enough info to get a response. Please email the solution to me at hypen@es.co.nz |

If you asr starting in 'Step by Step confirmation mode', then the name of the missing/damaged VxD file should be seen on the screen each time you start up, so write it down, and then copy it off a friends computer, or if your computer still starts, then download it of the internet. If it is missing then you can just replace it. If it is damaged, then you will have to delete it through DOS. If you need any more instructions just ask, and I will give you more. The only problem is, every time I got a new VxD from my mate, It started asking for a different one. Eventually (about 10 trips later) it started working fine. Oh well, hope it helps. |

These are the files that require confirmation in the loading process. ndis.vxd ndis2sup.vxd javasup.vxd WINDOWS\SYSTEM\vrtwd.386 WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ixd.vxd Vnetbios.vxd Viagart.vxd Ndiswon.vxd Vshinit.vxd Vsdata95.vxd Msmouse.vxd Sometimes it loads OK but others defaults and I have to start again. I've tried renstalling from the CD but that doesnt seem to help. I'm going to upgrade the motherboard so I can install Win2000, will that overcome the problem? |

The fact that it asks you about the files that you have just described is perfectly normal, and will happen from any computer if you select 'Step by Step Confirmation', as Windows is just confirming that you actually want to load them, not trying to tell you something is wrong. |
