42969 2002-04-10 03:21:00 How does a word.doc file become
a) a read only file?
b) a file ending 'doc.dot'?
thanks

42970 2002-04-10 03:34:00 To make a .doc file (or any file)read-only, riht click it and add a tick to the read-only box. (reverse this to undo it) Guest (0)

42976 2002-04-10 04:43:00 I could be wrong here but have you possibly saved the file to a CD or other removeable source and then copied it back to the hard drive or some one elses system.
When copying back from the CD for example it could become read only. To change that just right click the doc and select properties and change it there and apply/ok.

As for the doc.dot file extensions, I understood and I will stand corrected if I am wrong, I usually am, that a dot file is a template in Word.

42977 2002-04-10 04:45:00 In addition to my other reply, I have not tried this but if the doc file was password protected in some way, it could be read only to prevent changes being made. Guest (0)
