43357 2002-04-11 22:01:00 How do I stop wndows Messenger from signing automatically when I go on the net or go to outlook. I am using windows xp. Guest (0)
43358 2002-04-11 22:28:00 I don't have Win XP but i know in Win ME u open messenger, under tools click options.
U will see tabs up the top click on Prefences, now just unclick the thing that says run this program when windows starts.
For the Outlook problem open Outlook once again go under tool and click options. This time under the general tab unclick 'automatic sign messenger on' something like that. And your problem is sloved

43360 2002-04-13 00:45:00 This is quite a stupid problem that Microsoft dumped on us, and didn't give us an easy out. Here's the solution (if I remember it correctly):

I'll assume you know a little about what you're doing, so I'll give the brief instructions... if you need more, just post back and I'll give more detail.

Open Control Panel, and click on 'User Accounts'

Click on your user account from the list at the bottom.

From the 'related tasks' box in the top left of the window, click 'Manage my network passwords'.

(now here's where I may get this wrong, cause I've already deleted it, so I can't remember what it said) In the box that comes up, you need to delete one of the options there, which I think looks something like '/passport.net/' or something. Delete it, then click OK or Close and close all your other windows.

Now if you connect to the net messenger shouldn't automatically sign in. You can sign in manually if you want to, just remember not to tick the 'remember this user' or whatever it says, else you'll have to go through the process again.

HTH

Mike

PS If you get stuck, just post back and I'll try to help some more.

43361 2002-04-13 06:13:00 Hi I am also having this problem with messenger signing in as the net connects (very annoying) but when following the instructions I see the .NET passport option it is change .net passport so is this the one you click then delete??
Thanks
