| 43366 | 2002-04-11 21:47:00 | I am running Windows 98 on an IBM Thinkpad. I suspect I may have a registry fault brought about by a Norton Optimisation prgram. I can bood up to Safe Mode but when I try Normal Mode I get as far as the beep (near the end of the start up) and then the system hangs. I have tried the step by step boot up and it hangs after it installs the mouse driver I think.I have looked in the Hardware setting in Safe Mode and the mouse is active and working. What can I do in safe mode to find where the problem is? | Guest (0) | ||

| 43370 | 2002-04-12 02:12:00 | The mouse driver is the last driver to load. If you are having problems after loading the mouse driver, but before windows loads, but can still boot to safe mode, then you are unlikey to be having problems with startup programs. The problem is either a windows service (unlikely if windows hasn't loaded exploer (your desktop). So the problem is probably in your system.ini, win.ini or boot.ini files. To troubleshoot startup problems read the following KB article: Q273728 Available here: <support.microsoft.com Hope this helps G P |
