43241 2002-04-11 04:09:00 I have a problem with my HP ScanJet 6250c.
My computer is a Gateway Pentium III, 450 with 128 Meg of RAM. The scanner is connected to a USB port. My scanner has been working perfectly until this fault occurred .

When I access the scanner, the scanner program loads but displays a message ?Sorry, scanner could not be initialized. (Scanner not found)
When I access ScanJet Copy, again the ScanJet Copy program loads but displays this message ?Unable to open scanner. Make sure no other scanner applications are running and that scanner drivers are correctly installed.[1214]?

I have disconnected the USB cable and reconnected it. I have uninstalled the scanner software and reinstalled it.
I followed the instructions in HP Scanner Help/Scanner Not Working. Powered off computer, turned on scanner, then computer but could not find any reference to scanner test in HP ScanJet Properties dialog box as suggested in the Help.
In Caere Scan Manager, HP ScanJet 6200c/6250c[TWAIN] is shown as current scanner but no ISIS driver is shown. TWAIN Data Source is shown as HP Prescision Scan Pro. 1.0

I had this same problem about a year ago but unfortunately can?t remember how I cured it.
I hope you can help me.

43242 2002-04-11 09:13:00 Usually the problem occurs with the USB cable itself.

HP Usb implementations draw some of their power through the USB cable. If its not the correct cable - then you will get this error.

The cable should have a little round magnetic thingy (sorry cannot remember the technical name at the moment) about an inch or two away from the end that goes into the scanner. ie. you need to use the proper HP cable.

I made the mistake of plugging the one that goes into my epsom printer into the scanner and vise-versa.. Took me about 3 days to figure it out.
