| 43234 | 2002-04-11 03:26:00 | I want to set up a multiple boot system for default XP but able to run Win98 if required. At present XP Pro is on the master hard drive (C:) and Win98 is on the slave drive (F:) At bootup I get the two options:- Microsoft Windows XP Professional... or Microsoft Windows (which takes me to the C:\ prompt). This is my boot.ini file which I am warned not to mess with! :- XP Default Operating System. [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS='Micro soft Windows XP Professional' /fastdetect C:\='Microsoft Windows' Any help greatly appreciated. |

Because Windows 98 can't read NTFS it will not see the boot loader and not be able to understand commands that tell it to read from a specific file. You'll need Win98 to be C: and that the boot loader is installed on that drive. If Win98 is bootable from that hard drive then all you have to do is reinstall XP so that it can put the bootloader onto the window's 98 drive. |
