43548 2002-04-13 04:34:00 I need to update this programme regularly with Keplarian Elements. ie satellite pass times.
When I try, I get this error message in my dial up connection window

Dialling...
Failed to connect to remote computer. Could not detect modem. It may be in use, turned off, or not installed properly

I also use a satellite tracking Telemetry Decoder which is a junior version of UI View. I can update the keps ok.

I can also access my modem for normal internet use.

The designer of UI View assures me that there is no difference in obtaining keps between UI View and the Telemetry Decoder.

Thanks for your help.

43549 2002-04-13 05:18:00 I don't know how to solve your problem, but in the meantime couldn't you download them from the server directly? What organisation is providing the info? What satellites are you trcking - some universities have the ephimeris and kep files available for download- even the US DoD provides some info.

43550 2002-04-15 02:11:00 Thanks Graham for your ideas.
Yes there are other ways of obtaining keps.
I actually use UI View on a 486 and external modem where it works perfectly. I watch satellite passes on the 486 and communicate using a Pentium.
Use - amateur/ham radio
It just bugs me that a 486 and external modem work ok but I can't get UI View to download keps on a Pentium and a second 486 each with internal modems.
My gut tells me that there is a modem/programme conflict, but what ??

43551 2002-04-15 03:26:00 Looks like a configuration error. Has the modem been changed from COM3 to COM4 or something like that?

(Are these the 'two-line' files I remember from 1980-something? NASA used to post them in one of the newsgroups then).

Hard drive failed recently but UI View problem is the same both before and after the hard drive change.
