| 43875 | 2002-04-15 03:16:00 | Hi, I'm using win2k and IE6 and jetstream. I want learn how to share the connection with two or three pcs (running 95 or 98) What do I need and what do I do with it? Must I use a proxy server? or is there some better way? I'm not a newbie but I'm not too far advanced. be grateful for any help at all. J |

| 43876 | 2002-04-15 04:47:00 | Several ways you can proceed: 1. You can purchase an ADSL router and connect all your computers via it to the jetstream account. You will need a network card in all the computers and cat5 cable between each to the router. You should also be able to file share etc between the PCs -- Or -- You can keep your existing ADSL modem and set up one of the computers as a DHCP server and network all the other computers to the server, however if you have more than 2 pc's you will need a hub or switch. If you choose to have a DHCP server, it must always be turned on before the others if you want the net. You can also use fixed IP addresses but generally if you use this, you will need a proxy. An ADSL router will set you back $300-600 and a network card around $50 each and cable to suit. If you stick with the modem you already have, you will need to buy a network card for each pc, and i would recommend a 100Mbps switch (around $200), and some software.] hope this helps, Craig. |
