| 43904 | 2002-04-15 05:14:00 | My Windows XP system has recently developed a not so amusing problem. When other users log on or I switch users, I can no longer dial up. I have tried dialing direct through the dial-up network connection and using Outlook Express. All of the parameters that I have checked look the same (Com port, phone numbers, POPs, SMTPs). I don't think it is getting that far though as when I listen on the phone line I don't even get the modem popping the phone line. This problem seems to be a recent development so I have been thinking about the things that have changed. They would only be a patch to MacAfee to allow virus updates through a proxy server and the WinXP regular updates. The most recent of these was the Internet Explorer 6 Security Update which I installed last week. Any thoughts gratefully appreciated. |

I am not sure where it is but it is in the properties of the dial up connection somewhere. If you go to start |control panel |network and dial up |and go into the settings for your connection, it should be there somewhere. If you can't find it post here again and i will hunt it out for you... jimbob |

| 43906 | 2002-04-15 05:54:00 | Jimbob, thanks for your reply. I have set up Outlook to have separate email accounts for my wife, my kids and myself. They all dial in using the same dial up network connection and the same password. I have checked both the tools in Outlook and the properties of dial up networking and can't find the option that you mention. However, wouldn't this affect the validation at the receiving end. We are not even getting that far as we are not even hearing the modem click onto the line or dial out. Regards |
