1295934 2012-08-21 08:29:00 I have been using xtra/Yahoo webmail at work to check my emails for the past few years. As of Monday the interface started behaving strangely, rendering it unusable. Some examples:
- checkbox beside each mail item doesn't work (opens the mail item instead)
- toolbar with delete, reply, compose, etc. doesn't do anything
- hourglass appears when hovering over the options button, never goes away
I am able to log in and read mails, but can't delete or reply, nor can I sign out (but I can from the nz.yahoo.com main page).

Behaviour is identical on 3 different browsers - IE9, Firefox 14, and Chrome.
I've done the standard clear cache, remove cookies, etc. and restart browser.

The problem seems to be just me, and just at work (fine from home PC). I haven't noticed any problems browsing to any other web sites (and I do visit a lot and log in to a lot).

Suggestions welcome. My guess is that the webmail interface isn't loading completely. Something may have been changed on the corporate firewall (which is administered in the US), but all was fine up until end of last week. Standard Windows 7, 64-bit desktop with Office 2010 and McAfee corporate antivirus.
Any suggestions welcome as to what I may be able to change under my control.

1295935 2012-08-21 10:29:00 If it only fails to load on your work PC then the problem likely lies there.

Your firewall might be blocking some new set of advertising or such that XtraMail may have recently included, causing a loading failure, or the firewall has been changed and is blocking it somehow as you say.

Of course, this is Yahoo! We're talking about, so they could have done just about anything with it!

1295936 2012-08-21 22:28:00 Seems to be working now. I am blocking 3rd party cookies, but have now added an exception for the mail.yahoo.com site, and cleared out again all previous cache and cookies. Now seems to work ok.

The issue was that the site was not fully loading. I now see a few more items on the lower left-hand menu, and some advertising. Looks like xtra Webmail will not load and work properly without allowing 3rd party advertising, which is disappointing.

If you replace the advertising with other content of the same size & location it seems OK, but their layout method tends to assume it's there, and if it's not, it all looks rubbish.

1295938 2012-08-21 22:38:00 I block the ads and use Stylish to make the layout much better. Never had a problem doing it that way. Agent_24 (57)
1295939 2012-08-21 23:45:00 Hi all,

I too have been having trouble with xtra- most unusual since I joined 15 years ago ;-(
My problem is a repeated failure to accept the password-says wrong- agout two hours and minus a little hair-- it works, and the claim I had the wrong password disappears
This morning I had a trouble free start up-perhaps I was dreaming---yeah right !!!
I still am suspicious this problem will hit me agai,as I Have not changed any settings etc

1295940 2012-08-21 23:58:00 I had a couple of days where mail wasn't coming through outlook express. Or I would get the same email 2 or 3 times.
Wasn't sure whether it was OE, yahoo/xtra, or my settings.

I went to webmail page, resent important ones to a different email address and wiped everything else on there. Fingers crossed, have had no problems since.

As Agent_24 indicated in different wording; anything can happen and it usually does.

1295941 2012-08-22 01:15:00 I have had far more problems with Xtramail after they outsourced to Yahoo! than back when Telecom was in charge. Most recent annoyance I recall was when trying to load the page it would crash with "LaunchFFC-1" error. That came up on and off for a couple of weeks. Haven't seen it recently though.

EDIT:

For the record, if you're using Stylish in Firefox or Chrome, or Opera, you can use this: userstyles.org

1295942 2012-08-22 02:28:00 Me too, having that sort of craps on and off since yahoo took over, annoying spams, too - although I can use their spam fillter.

But it seems to be quite stable for a while lately.
