1295839 2012-08-21 07:25:00 Hey there guys,

I am ready to upgrade my motherboard now. My old board is a ASUS M2N-MX SE with an AMD Athlon 64x2. I am upgrading to an ASUS P8P67-M Pro with an i5 CPU. I have already read up on how to physically upgrade but what happens when you are upgrading from and AMD CPU to an Intel CPU. What do I do when I boot up? Will I load into windows automatically?
Thanks.

1295843 2012-08-21 07:43:00 Unlikely to boot at all. Work would be required to fix driver issues. Best bet would be to to do a fresh install of the operating system, restore data and install required programs to the fresh install. gcarmich (10068)
1295844 2012-08-21 07:47:00 generally the only times a motherboard/cpu upgrade will work without reinstallation is when they're of the same exact series and/or chipset. Generally cpu's are fine but the motherboard forms the basis of pretty much every other part of how the computer operates.

If that thing boots after swapping over from an edit (amd) to an intel and doesn't blue screen then... well i'd say something but i've seen dumber things happen, so I'll do nothing, but I'll be quite spectacularly surprised.

1295845 2012-08-21 07:54:00 Even if it boots I'd do a fresh install anyway. icow (15313)
