1295762 2012-08-20 19:17:00 My old laptop has gone belly up and I want to be able to use my classic ipod with the new laptop I've just bought. I've downloaded a new version of itunes onto it but I need guidance as to how my iPod will recognise the new version of itunes and transfer all the 15000 songs and related data about them into iTunes I'm petrified that I may lose all my music off my iPod if I do it wrong. Can someone walk me through the transfer procedure step by step as I'm not too au fait with copying and manipulating hard drives. Thanks. willbry (1555)

1295764 2012-08-21 05:16:00 I am transferring to iTunes using Windows 7. The google help info applies to XP or Vista OS but not using W7. I have got to the point where I have all my music transferred from my iPod into a new folder located on my desktop but don't know how to import it from there. I have opened Edit- Preferences- Advanced in iTunes but am unsure what to do next.
Would appreciate some help

1295767 2012-08-21 06:40:00 I have got to the point where I have all my music transferred from my iPod into a new folder located on my desktop Did you transfer it or just make a copy? You have all your eggs in one basket if that copy on your desktop is the sole archive.

I would at least make a backup copy of it before you start playing around, but by preference I would have left it on the iPod until I had the new copy up and running, and with a backup copy tucked safely away. I'd be petrified too if I had 15,000 songs plus data at risk.

1295768 2012-08-22 02:53:00 Have just made a copy Billy. Everything is still intact on the ipod & I've prevented it from automatically syncing. willbry (1555)
1295769 2012-08-22 03:00:00 cant you just copy the entire music folder to the itunes music folder??? GameJunkie (72)
1295770 2012-08-23 04:55:00 It sounds simple but it's a bit more complicated that simply copying. However I think I've got it after watching a Youtube video about 20 times and taking copious notes. Shame on Apple for not allowing this type of file transfer to be carried out normally!! willbry (1555)
