2012-08-19 10:44:00 | E.g. everything freezes, caps lock and numlock light up any audio that was playing stutters/loops the last half a second if on the desktop the mouse still works for maybe 10-20 seconds before freezing too. Have run malwarebytes found 2 items, both were in my downloads folder listed as bundle software (ccleaner and open freely). Removed both anyway. Ran mse quick scan found nothing, can't run a full scan (system hangs). Computer won't shutdown or restart properly either (appears to hang after closing explorer). Windows update wont open. CPU is sitting around 25-30 degrees, ram tested ok. Video card drivers are the latest. Time before crash/hang seems to be random but always less than 60 minutes, regardless of programs open/used. First started happening today/this afternoon. Specs: AMD 965 Black Edition 4gb RAM (single stick) ATi 7850 Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit (not sp1, hence me noticing that windows update wont work, tried manually downloading updates too system just hung around halfway through download) Hijackthis Log: Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4 Scan saved at 9:24:58 p.m., on 19/08/2012 Platform: Windows 7 (WinNT 6.00.3504) MSIE: Internet Explorer v8.00 (8.00.7600.17051) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\HsMgr.exe C:\Program Files\ASUS Xonar D1 Audio\Customapp\ASUSAUDIOCENTER.EXE C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\Users\user1\AppData\Local\Akamai\netsession_win .exe C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\LightScribe\LightScribeControlPanel.exe C:\Users\user1\AppData\Local\Akamai\netsession_win .exe C:\Program Files (x86)\LogMeIn Hamachi\hamachi-2-ui.exe C:\Users\user1\AppData\Roaming\Dropbox\bin\Dropbox .exe E:\Downloads\HijackThis.exe R1 - | 1295543 | 2012-08-19 10:53:00 | The missing files is an issue HJT has with 64 bit systems. They are not really missing. :)

2012-08-19 11:00:00 | I'm surprised they haven't updated HJT for 64bit since most PC's are moving over | gary67 (56) | |
2012-08-19 11:06:00 | Several things can cause a system to lock. Try starting it in safe Mode ( pressing F8 on startup) Does it lock ? if not then it could be a software / Driver problem someplace. If it does still lock it could be a hardware problem as well. When it locks, look at the HDD activity light on the case, whats it doing ? is it on solid or off/flashing like normal usage.

2012-08-19 11:09:00 | Could be a hardware issue or a driver, or a corrupted windows install. a few suggestions; Try running it from a linux live CD and see if it's stable Run Memtest for a good 30 mins or so to check the RAM Check the temps of the CPU and GPU, realtemp, Prime95, and Furmark will stress test it (run furmark on it's own to test the graphics card) If it has onboard Video or you have a spare graphics card try removing your current one temporarily and see if it gets more stable. Check you have up to date drivers and try a remove/reinstall on;- LAN drivers, Sound, Graphics, possibly USB, use the manufacturers drivers from the motherboards support page in preference.

2012-08-19 21:54:00 | Might be an IE 8 problem, shouldn't you be using IE 9 on Win 7? LL

2012-08-20 06:20:00 | Grr hung while I was typing out a reply. Anyway after that I took the video card and all my HDD's but my data one out and left the CD drive in. Still wouldn't boot to the windows installer. Took the Data HDD out and plugged in the SSD. Booted to windows fine, didn't crash. Am going to try again with the video card back in. Can anyone recommend some kind of software to test the HDD with? | icow (15313) | |
2012-08-20 06:39:00 | Most HD manufactuers usually have testing software on there websites. :)

2012-08-20 06:41:00 | Reading the HDD's S.M.A.R.T May give some clues. You can do it with either ( or both) of the following software: ( as well as run tests) HDD Tune www.hdtune.com/ or Diskcheckup http:

2012-08-20 08:22:00 | Ok having the HDD plugged in at startup causes a total freeze. I've tried "hot plugging" the hdd (seeing as sata is plug and play) but that causes windows to crash as soon as either the power cable is plugged in. By freeze I mean that everything freezes and then explorer + any programs open close and then the computer freezes again with only the wallpaper showing. Any ideas? | icow (15313) | |
