1295464 2012-08-19 06:27:00 I am trying to set up networking between my desktop and laptop 'puters. So far, so good. I can 'talk' to public folders, but I want to do more. I want to be able to move files back and forwards to all my drives. I can 'see' the other drives, but when I try to go into them, the following message comes up:
'You do not have permission to access..... Contact your network administrator to request access'

That is all very well - but I AM the network administrator - and I don't know what to do next! Help! What do I do next?

TIA :)

1295465 2012-08-19 06:47:00 You can either right click the drive in my computer and fo share my drive or make folders on the drives and do the same but to share the folders gary67 (56)
1295466 2012-08-19 07:06:00 Done that - it doesn't seem to help. I want to move photos (and other files) back and forward. R.M. (561)
1295467 2012-08-19 07:07:00 Is this WIn7 if so you need to set permissions to gary67 (56)
1295468 2012-08-19 07:09:00 Also when setting sharing click on the Security tab and add 'Everyone' to the list of'Group or user names', and then set all the 'Permissions for Everyone' to 'Allow', ie Full control, modify, Read and execute, Write, etc This should make sure that sharing is fully enabled. 1295469 2012-08-19 07:09:00 Windows 7 Pro (sorry I forgot that bit...) I've done that too, I thought. No luck. R.M. (561)

1295471 2012-08-19 07:37:00 Just a hunch - I think there is something 'funny' about my laptop settings. Perhaps to do with 'Administrator' settings. Does that make any sense to anyone? R.M. (561)
1295472 2012-08-19 07:56:00 When you right click on a drive and go Properties > Sharing, go to Advanced sharing and make sure 'Share this folder' is ticked, and that the name of the drive in the Settings Share window is correct, and cross check the Permissions for the drive.

Sharing can be a vexatious process, sometimes there seems to be no logic behind it !!!!

Yes - done that too, but still no joy. :(
