1295232 2012-08-17 10:25:00 Trying to install to my new HDD, used the gateway setup discs (x3) I made after I bought the laptop. It gets to the 'setting up junk' as per first boot, then pops up saying it can't be installed and to reinstall to setup windows.

Wondering what the cause is. Any ideas or suggestions? I do have a drivers and software disc as well but it didn't ask for that at any point -_-

1295233 2012-08-17 11:04:00 Seen that message once , it was caused by a faulty / corrupted Recovery disc. (4 disc's and disc number 3 had a fault) It was a HP.

Ended up doing it the long way, fresh basic install of the OS, using the COA on the PC, then download and install drivers programs etc.

1295234 2012-08-17 11:13:00 Alright. Well, trying again in case it is faulty. Failing all else I'll image the old drive and just flick the bugger over to the other drive. Kind of annoying though, I was looking forward to a fresh install. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
1295235 2012-08-17 11:28:00 bleh. didn't work. Gonna try a repair install using my win 7 disc.
I'd use that bloody thing to begin with but my key is OEM so wouldn't work I don't think.

If this doesn't work then i'll get to imaging the bloody old drive -_-

edit - guh. no repair option. trying fresh with my key. THEN imaging it.

Lol failing EVERYTHING i could try get a copy of enterprise from MSDN

1295236 2012-08-17 12:18:00 Just check the disk for fingerprints etc and give it a bit of a wipe, sometimes they can be enough for your drive not to read the disk correctly and cause same error. Worth a shot. Iantech (16386)
1295237 2012-08-17 12:32:00 Well it seems I have access to another license of win 7 pro under the dreamspark scheme.

This has turned out far more confusing than it needed to be -_-.

Now I'm not sure WHAT to do.

1295238 2012-08-17 20:29:00 Well it took 5 attempts using the discs, my ISO, etc to get it to work. Took so bloody long. Ended up downloading that ISO, deleting EI.cfg and using a usb stick to install home edition, then used the phone service to activate.

Gonna try the desktop later.
