1296126 2012-08-24 06:39:00 Just tried out your instructions above, didn't manage to start up Windows and I had to run the restore second time and ticked the 'System Reserved' to restore it; and this time it booted just fine. I think we need both the System Reserved and the 'Local Disk D' but can't tick both at the same time.

There maybe other ways?

1296127 2012-08-24 07:30:00 Not really BK When I tried it it was either as posted in the Picture, or everything. It didn't allow me to tick System Reserved & Local Disk.

When I tried it, it imaged back OK and booted fine. The original OS was W7 Enterprise, and I put back Home Pre. Second partition stayed as is, so did the System reserved.

1296128 2012-08-24 08:51:00 When backing up, did you select your second partition as well or just C: ?

I only selected C: when imaging.

I must have done something wrong along the line.

1296129 2012-08-24 08:53:00 When ever I create an image, I take the whole drive. With W7 some people like to remove the small partition , 100-200MB, I leave it alone, its there for a reason. Often you'll find if the small partition is removed and theres a problem someplace you need the W7 DVD to repair the OS. wainuitech (129)
1296130 2012-08-24 09:20:00 Yeah, imaging the whole HDD works OK and fast, too. bk T (215)
1296131 2012-08-24 09:25:00 The following link tells you whats in the 100MB partition.100-mb-system-reserved-partition-when-installing-windows-7/ (www.mydigitallife.info) Personal opinion - its not doing any harm, better to leave it alone as it can be handy.

Main part
The 100 MB system partition is used primarily as BitLocker partition for BitLocker encryption. Additionally, it also holds the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) and boot files with boot manager for booting up the computer for troubleshooting when there is no Windows 7 installation DVD disc on hand.

BTW- Myth - its your thread :D good it worked OK and got the IBM going again.
